Orrick airs it out in victory over NHC
The Oct. 7 meeting at Norborne between Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) and undefeated Orrick in varsity 8-man football was a reunion of sorts for Orrick coach and former NHC coach Kirk Thacker.
Before the Central River Conference interdivisional meeting, Orrick assistant coach and former NHC player Tommy Burton contacted some of Thacker’s explayers who had graduated high school, Thacker said Monday morning by phone. Between 10 and 12 of those graduates watched Orrick’s 50-28 victory “in support” of their former coach, Thacker estimated.
“I did not know he was going to do (that). … It was good to see all of them,” he said.
Those former players and others in attendance saw the Bearcats (7-0) win by doing something not associated with teams Thacker coaches: passing. Officially, Orrick attempted 21 passes.
