Richmond volleyballers go 1-1-1, take third at Carrollton
CARROLLTON – Richmond varsity volleyball coach Crystal Turner had high hopes for her Spartans for the Carrollton Tournament. “We took second there last year and I’d really like to see us win out this year,” Turner said Sept. 29.
Richmond finished third instead. The Spartans went 1-1-1 in the Oct. 1 tournament, splitting with 1-1 with Carrollton and getting swept by Trenton 2-0 before sweeping Brookfield 3-0 in the third-place match.
“Overall, we did pretty … (well),” senior Kelly Jaggars said. “We had our (rough) moments, but overall, I’m really proud of how we did.”
After winning the first set with Carrollton 25-23, the Spartans dropped the second 25-17. They “played very well against” the Trojans, Turner commented.
“We battled them … both games,” she said. “I was proud of the way we played.”
But the Spartans relapsed in dropping their sets to Trenton 25-20, 25-20, Turner, sophomore Natalie Marrant and first-year high schooler Genevieve Didier agreed.
