Spartans snap skid behind McFee’s two-hitter

Unknowingly, Aleana McFee flirted with perfection when she pitched for Richmond Monday against Plattsburg. The sophomore carried a perfect game into the fifth inning and a no-hitter into the sixth. She finished with a two-hitter to help the Spartans post a 2-0 win at Southview Park and snap a three-game losing streak. Last week, Richmond fell to Braymer/Breckenridge 4-0 Sept. 12, Carrollton 3-2 Sept. 13 and Holden 14-5 Sept. 15 – all on the road. McFee said she didn’t know she was throwing a perfect game or a no-hitter. “I was more focused on just throwing strikes,” she said. McFee “did pretty well” at throwing strikes, she said. “I had a rough week last week,” McFee said. “So I’m glad I’m just back and ready to go.” McFee threw enough strikes to fan seven Tigers, including Madison Hulke, who still reached base with two outs in the fifth on a wild-pitch third strike to end McFee’s bid for a perfect game.
