Pick six helps Spartans seal win, stay undefeated

The Kansas City Chiefs weren’t the only metro area football team that used a fourth-quarter pick six last week to secure a home win while sporting red jerseys. About 24 hours after Jaylen Watson’s 99-yard interception return for a touchdown had helped the Chiefs defeat the Los Angeles Chargers 27-24 at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Richmond secured an 18-7 win over visiting Van Horn in part with a pick six by senior Bailon Stockton. With Richmond leading 12-7 and Van Horn facing third-and-8 at the Richmond 45-yard line, Falcons quarterback Andrew Murphy threw to his right. Stockton, however, snagged the ball, and with a group of fellow Spartans escorting him, returned the ball 62 yards, scoring with 2 minutes, 23 seconds remaining for the final points of Richmond’s Sept. 16 victory.
