Bearcats prep for Bobcats after ‘wakeup’ win over Orioles

Kirk Thacker called “a wakeup game – or should’ve been a wakeup game” on Sept. 9, when they hosted Concordia in varsity 8-man football.
After one quarter, Orrick trailed Concordia 14-0, Thacker recalled Monday by phone. That wakeup call prompted the Bearcats to answer with a 16-0 second quarter and outscore the Orioles 36-14 for a 52-28 Central River Conference I-70 Division win.
“They came out hard and they outdid us, intensity-wise, that first half,” said Thacker, a 1987 Richmond High School graduate.
The Bearcats remained undefeated entering their meeting Friday with Braymer/Breckenridge at Braymer. Thacker has “a very healthy fear of Braymer, especially after what happened … (last) week,” he said.
Orrick will need to play its “‘A’ game,” particularly on defense, to defeat the Bobcats, according to Thacker.
