Shirkey explores new ideas to serve, CEO says

Chris Brown, CEO of Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, has some ideas about how the Richmond-based facility and its parent organization, Shirkey Health Services, can serve Ray County and surrounding counties. And those ideas will surface soon, Brown said during a recent interview. One idea involves services from what Brown called a “yetto- be-named” nurse practitioner company. Brown hopes more details will be ready by year’s end. Brown also discussed Shirkey’s current services. Those services include a dementia unit that is all-female, inpatient therapy and outpatient rehab “just like the hospital does,” he said. Other services include two specialty programs: “The Big and Loud” and lipedema therapy. The first program is for Parkinson’s patients. “We’ve had many people from not only Ray County but many other counties go through the program, and many are able to regain (whatever) function that they lost from Parkinson’s,” Brown said.
