A treasure of young talent attends drama camp
On Aug. 13, some young Ray County thespians tried their hand at an art form that experienced its heyday when their greatgrandparents were young.
That afternoon, theater camp participants staged “Treasure Island, A Radio Play,” adapted by Ruth Giordano from Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, at the Farris Theatre in Richmond. The production capped a week-long theater camp, hosted by the Farris Youth Theatre Co. and sponsored by the Friends of the Farris Inc. Taught and organized by Trish Fields. The camp drew 24 youngsters in grades 2-12.
The afternoon entertainment also included a preshow, written and directed by Madison Wolf, Olivia Thomas, and London Smoot. The three had the idea to create an opportunity for the cast and crew to explore their radio and studio characters prior to showtime, program information provided by Fields stated.
