Ronald Marvin “Red” Halterman
Ronald Marvin “Red” Halterman, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2022. He was 83 years old.
He was born on Jan. 26, 1939, to John and Jessie Mae (McComas) Halterman of Hardin, MO.
After Ronnie graduated from the Hardin School, he joined the United States Army in March of 1958. He served in Korea, returning to Fort Sill, OK, to be discharged in Mar. of 1960.
Ronnie worked as a bricklayer and at the Hardin Coop until 1966, when he started working at Lake City Arsenal. It was there he met Joyce Elaine Laquet. They were married on Mar. 22, 1969; she preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 1995.
After 30 years of hard work, he retired on Mar. 31, 1996.
Ronnie lived his whole life in and around the Ray County area. Since the age of 13, he lived to hunt for mushrooms, finding several gallons every year. He would give most of them to people who couldn’t get out to find their own.
Ronnie married his second wife, Joan M. Estenbaum, on May 17, 2002; she preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 2004.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jessie Halterman; his six sisters, Meta Railey, Marcella Louise Crawford, Dixie Rose Lierman, Peggy Genelle Holman, Rebecca Holman, and Gale Jean Green; and his four brothers, Donald Halterman, George “GW” Halterman, Roy Allen Halterman, and Robert William Halterman.
Survivors include two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Debra (Emmet) Leabo and Vicki (Ken) Holland; stepson, David Martin “Marty” Estenbaum; six step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. His brother and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, at the funeral home. Military Honors provided by the United States Army and the Ray County Veterans. Burial will be in Hardin Cemetery.
