RFD welcomes Amen, a serviceman by nature
The Richmond Fire Department’s newest member is familiar with serving in uniform.
Brad Amen, an engineer, firefighter and EMT, is a former Marine. After graduating high school in 2010, he served four years in the infantry and deployed to combat in Afghanistan, he said.
While stationed in Southern California, Amen met his wife Maxine, he said. That’s also where their daughter, now 8, was born, he recalled.
After leaving the military, Amen and his family settled in Independence. He attended college at Metropolitan Community College (MCC), transferring from there to the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Amen worked for a few years with Truman Medical Center (now University Health) as a social worker and in the federal government with the Social Security Administration. He joined the fire service because he was ready for a career change, he said.
