Youngsters hoop it up at Richmond camp
Richmond Middle School coaches Tatha Farnan, Shawn Calhoun and Brett Terry had a hit with their inaugural youth basketball camp – and one camp activity in particular – based on what they witnessed Monday at the middle school.
Farnan, the head middle school girls coach, estimated 60 students grades 2-8 attended the start of the three-day camp, which concluded Wednesday.
“I think we had almost 70 signed up and 60 came, so that’s awesome,” she said.
When asked what their favorite activity that morning was, the youngsters overwhelmingly expressed their approval for knockout, an elimination game. The game consists of hoopsters lining up and attempting a shot. If a shooter makes it, he or she stays in. But as Farnan explained, if that shooter misses and the next shooter makes the shot, then the person who missed gets knocked out.
