Bob King is leaving the Ray County Commission again. This time, it appears it’s for good. King announced in June during a candidate’s forum that he’s retiring in December after serving his second stint as presiding commissioner. Originally, he served from 2011 to 2014. Upon learning he would need a heart valve replacement, he took time off. He was elected to the position again in 2019. King came to the job from a banking background. Beginning as a teller, he worked his way up to CEO of Hardin Federal Savings and Loan without a college degree, he recalled. That banking background brought a surrealist understanding of “needs for all people,” King said. As presiding commissioner, King’s finance-related duties include overseeing budgets in all county departments, approving or revising them as necessary.
