KING PLANS EXIT
Bob King is leaving the Ray County Commission again. This time, it appears it’s for good.
King announced in June during a candidate’s forum that he’s retiring in December after serving his second stint as presiding commissioner. Originally, he served from 2011 to 2014. Upon learning he would need a heart valve replacement, he took time off. He was elected to the position again in 2019.
King came to the job from a banking background. Beginning as a teller, he worked his way up to CEO of Hardin Federal Savings and Loan without a college degree, he recalled.
That banking background brought a surrealist understanding of “needs for all people,” King said.
As presiding commissioner, King’s finance-related duties include overseeing budgets in all county departments, approving or revising them as necessary. Those departments include the Planning and Zoning Department and the Road and Bridge Department, which maintains 600 miles of roads.
