Children have 11,689 reasons to love Bowman, Richmond Rotary
RICHMOND – Margie Bowman was honored on May 20 for chairing the Richmond Rotary Club’s Shoes for Orphan Souls campaign for 20 years.
Bowman was presented with a certificate during the Richmond Rotary Club’s meeting.
Bowman talked about how she had started with Buckner’s Shoes for Orphan Souls.
“I was president of the (Richmond Rotary) Club in 2001 and our district governor was Larry Lunsford. ... He was looking for an international project and ran across Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls. He just kind of picked it up. ... Since I was the president and it was the first year we were going to do this, myself and the treasurer took it upon ourselves to do it for the club. We went out and bought shoes,” said Bowman.
Partnering with the Salvation Army, the Rotary also bought new shoes for local kids who needed school shoes for the first couple of years.
