Gary Lee and Sandra Lou Proffitt, 78 and 76, respectively, of Camden, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at their home. 

Gary and Sandra were united in marriage on July 10, 1963.  Gary was born on January 13, 1944, in Lexington, the son of Robert Glen and Dorothy Viola (Engelbrecht) Proffitt.  Sandra was born on December 4, 1945, in Reno, NV, the daughter of Jewell and Donna (Mortenson) Green.   

Survivors include son, Brent (Irenia) Proffitt of St. Joseph; two daughters, Wendy (John) Eberhardt of Green Castle and Carmen Proffitt of Plattsburg; 11 grandchildren: Wade Proffitt, Mason Proffitt, David Michael Robles, Brent Robles, Jason Farmer, Reyce Merritt, Mason Merritt, Krista Proffitt, Daniel Eberhardt, Robert Eberhardt, and Conner LeBrasseur; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

Gary’s additional survivor includes his brother, Robert Gene “Bobby” Proffitt of Richmond. 

Sandra’s additional survivor includes her brother, Leon Green of Murrells Inlet, SC. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Marie Annette Proffitt. 

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sharon “Sherrie” Utley. 

Gary was a master carpenter and owned and operated Proffitt Construction.  He enjoyed hunting, gardening, wood working, and reading. 

Sandra was a housewife and homemaker.  She also worked outside of the home as an Administrative Assistant and various other jobs, after raising her family.  Sandra enjoyed crocheting, knitting, canning, gardening, and was also an avid reader.

Funeral services for Gary and Sandra will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the funeral home.  As per Gary’s wishes, private family burial will be on the family farm.  Please remember to share your memories of Gary and Sandra with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
