Mini Cooper owners rally in Richmond

RICHMOND – Nearly three dozen vehicles, owners and supporters gathered during the Richmond Mushroom Festival for the Mini Cooper Rally in front of the Farris Theatre, 215 W. Main St. “This is to get out and have some fellowship,” said an event organizer, Hilary Morrissey, Macon. Morrissey used a Segway to get from the two groups of cars lining both sides of West Main. The event attracted Mini Cooper drivers from throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area, she said. They get together because they have bonded like family, and Morrissey said she has been part of the group for 12 years. Maci Zimmerman, 14, drove with her father, Greg Zimmerman, from Olathe, Kansas, to participate. “This is her first car,” Greg Zimmerman said. “I didn’t realize it was a lifestyle until we got it,” Maci Zimmerman said, and expressed some of the enthusiasm shared by fellow owners. “It’s a fraternity.
