Harris posts hat trick at sectionals

WESTON – Jonathon Harris is going to state in his first season of varsity track. The Orrick sophomore qualified in three events for the Class 1 state meet, slated for Friday and Saturday at Jefferson City High School. He punched his ticket by placing second in the 110-meter high hurdles, and third in the 300 intermediate hurdles and in the triple jump at Sectional 3 competition, hosted May 14 by West Platte High School. The top four finishers in each event advanced. “I am very happy for him,” Bearcats coach Kirk Thacker stated Tuesday via email. “I was worried but hopeful he would get to state in one event and then he goes in three. Fantastic.” Harris ran the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles in 16.22 and 43.82 seconds, respectively. He leaped 12.1 meters for his third-place long jump finish. Harris was one of two Bearcats to qualify. Sophomore Jaxon Miller qualified by leaping 6.13 for third in the long jump. “I also was very proud of Jaxon going in the long jump,” Thacker stated. …
