Pugh breaks 40-year-old school record at districts
CLEVELAND – A 40-year-old Hardin-Central boys track record fell May 7 at Class 1 District 6 competition.
On the Midway School District campus, Korbin Pugh won his preliminary heat of the 100-meter dash in 11.4 seconds and then the finals in 11.11. In doing so, Pugh broke the school record, 11.45, set in 1982 by Skip Wheeler, Activities Director and secondary Principal William Dow confirmed Tuesday via email. “Didn’t know if I could one-up
“Didn’t know if I could one-up myself,” Pugh said.
Pugh “deserved to” set the record, Bulldogs coach Brent Behler said.
“He’s a hard-working kid,” Behler said.
Because some entrants “had run low 11s” and “high 10s” before the meet, Pugh initially had some uneasiness, he said.
“But I kind of settled myself down, got into my mindset,” Pugh said. “(I) was like, ‘If you just run relaxed, run as hard as you can to the best of your ability, (if) you just give it your all, that’s all you can ask for.’”
