Two ’Cats play ‘definitely good’ rounds at Richmond

RICHMOND – Orrick golf coach Mitch Comstock saw something that was “definitely good” April 29 from Maddox Peterson and Jacob McElwee at the Richmond Invitational. Both first-year high schoolers shot better than they had the week before in tournament play at Chillicothe, Comstock said. Peterson finished the 18-hole, par-71 round at Shirkey Golf Course with a 118 (+46) to tie Brookfield’s Lucky Poston for 92nd. Peterson’s 55 (+19) for the front nine was “by far, our best nine-hole score that we’ve had all year,” Comstock said. He also said Peterson’s final score was a fivestroke improvement over Chillicothe. McElwee shot a 130 (+59) to finish 103rd. That was a six-stroke improvement over Chillicothe, Comstock said. “They both improved by a handful of strokes, which is good,” he said. McElwee expressed disappointment with his round.
