Spartans sweep Carrollton triangular after runner-up Senior Day
RICHMOND – Richmond coach Murray Dennis wished his Spartans would have given the three seniors on their varsity boys golf team a better sendoff Monday.
Monday was Senior Day, with the Spartans facing Knob Noster and Orrick in a triangular at Shirkey Golf Course. Richmond shot a combined 207 for the nine-hole, par-36 round – eight strokes behind Knob Noster and 70 strokes ahead of Orrick.
“We’ve played better,” Dennis said. “Wasn’t one of our best nights out.”
A tendency to overswing hurt the Spartans, Dennis said.
“(We were) trying to kill the ball … today and it didn’t work out,” he said.
Aiden Bowman, one of the team’s three seniors, led Richmond with a 49 (+13) and finished second overall – four strokes behind Knob Noster’s Ethan Gaydos. The round “definitely could’ve been better,” Bowman said.
“But … it is what it is,” he said. “I had just a few blow-up holes. I just couldn’t find consistency.”
Senior Reece Wrisinger shot a 50 (+14). “Short game was pretty good,”
