Richmond wins girls relay, boys 800 at Excelsior meet
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The wind befriended Kaylee Pugh at last week’s Mineral Water Classic when the Richmond sophomore ran her leg of the 400-meter relay.
Taking the baton from leadoff runner Abrey Oldham, Pugh zipped down the straightaway. The Spartans went on to win in 53.28 seconds.
“The wind was in my favor there,” Pugh said.
Having the wind at her back at the April 22 meet at Excelsior Springs High School was in stark contrast to fighting wind gusts about three weeks earlier at the Hoot Middleton Invitational at Richmond.
But sophomore Sydney Appleberry, who ran the third leg, did not always have the wind at her back.
