Richmond golfers weather the weather – again
RICHMOND – Golf coach Murray Dennis watched his Spartans sweep Tuesday’s Missouri River Valley Conference East Division varsity triangular with Lafayette County of Higginsville and Lexington while playing once again in subpar weather.
Under an overcast sky and fighting through a chilly, windy afternoon, the Richmond boys shot a combined 210 – 26 strokes lower than runner-up Lafayette County. Conditions at Shirkey Golf Course started off well.
“Then it got cool as the day went on – the evening went on,” Dennis said. “It’s hard to swing a golf club when it gets that cool, and the ball doesn’t compress like it would if it … (were) warmer, so you’re not going to get the distance you (normally would) get on some shots.”
Chilly days also affect the “feel” a golfer has for his or her clubs and swing, Dennis said.
“It’s hard to get a feel when your hands are cold,” he said. “The grip’s cold. The ball’s cold.”
