Former deputy alleges unfair treatment

RICHMOND – The Missouri Human Rights Commission issued a “right to sue” notice to former Ray County Deputy Ryland T. Sims, 30, Richmond, who then filed suit against the Ray County Sheriff’s Office and the Ray County Commission. Sims alleges being fired by Sheriff Scott Childers based on a disability and further alleges retaliation. “I’d talk about it if I could; however, on advice from my lawyer, I cannot,” Childers said Tuesday. Sims provided a list of grievances to the Human Rights Commission, or HRC, that include allegations that Childers: • Said Sims had used excessive force; • Wanted him to get help with anger issues; and • Said he drew complaints from the public. “It is my contention that these actions were undertaken based upon a perceived disability,” Sims stated to the HRC when detailing his allegations against Childers.
