Ronald William Vassmer, 84, of rural Richmond, died Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at NorthCare Hospice House in Kansas City. 

Ronald was born on January 20, 1938, in Clay County, the son of Walter and Iva (Young) Vassmer.  He was united in marriage to Louetta Bennett of Gladstone on October 8, 1960; she survives of the home. 

Additional survivors include: two sons, Ronald Wesley (Betty) Vassmer of Polo and Loren (Deva) Vassmer of Excelsior Springs; five grandchildren: Jeremy (Holly) Vassmer, Jodi (Greg) Vassmer, Ryan (Lacy) Vassmer, Alan (Kylie) Vassmer, and Jessica (Jake) Alvarez; seven great-grandchildren: Payton Vassmer, Sophia Baird, Kingsten Baird, Eli Vassmer, Henry Vassmer, Emmett Vassmer, and Rowan Alvarez; sister, Belinda Reavis of Gladstone; and many nephews and nieces also survive. 

He was preceded in death by parents, brother, Donald Vassmer, and sister, Ilene Hein. 

Ronald was reared and educated in the area of his birth and lived most of his life in Ray County.  His whole life revolved around farming and agriculture related industries.  Ronald first started helping his father in farming at a young age baling hay, raising cattle, and logging.  He and his father helped cut down all the big trees, when building Truman Lake, to use the logs in various construction of bridges etc. around Missouri.  Over the years, he eventually farmed on his own.  Ronald was always there to help his friends, in farming, and they were always there to lend a hand when he needed one.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially hunting for antelope in Wyoming with his sons.  Ronald enjoyed reading, especially the World Book Encyclopedias, and loved to watch the Nature and History channels.  He will be dearly missed by his friends and family. 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085. 

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, with visitation beginning at 12:30 P.M., with services to follow at 1:30 P.M.  Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Richmond.  Please remember to share your memories of Ronald with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com
