Firefighters put out fire at business on East Main
RICHMOND – At 12:03 p.m. March 27, the Richmond Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire on East Main Street in Richmond, Fire Chief Mark Sowder reported.
Crews found fire emanating from the area of a closed, roll-up door at the rear of an auto body shop. After confirming the absence of occupants, fire suppression activities began with removing the roll-up door.
Firefighters advanced two hoses into the paint booth bay, which contained two burning vehicles and equipment. Firefighters brought the flames under control in the paint booth, and overhaul work began, opening walls and ceilings to extinguish burning insulation.
“Metal walls made this process extensive and timeconsuming,” Sowder reported. “Very little fire extension was found into the adjoining areas of the building. One civilian was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is undetermined.”
