Middle schoolers reach new heights
RICHMOND – The Rock Wall at Richmond Middle School has been a favorite activity of P.E. classes since 2005, based on school information.
Staci Maddux and Ken Simmons, a retired physical education teacher from the school, had a vision of a rock wall at the time climbing first became popular.
“We were seeing climbing walls installed in community centers and schools in other states. We had the perfect place for one and started researching what it would take. Our rock wall is one of, if not the largest, wall in the state of Missouri in a public school,” school information states. “The wall was constructed in three phases over the span of five years.
“Climbing is a great activity because it increases muscle strength, endurance, self-esteem, agility, flexibility and not to mention that is challenging. Our wall ranges in difficulty from easy with large rocks for your hands and feet, to extremely challenging if you do the Fingertip, Crack, RMS or Pyramid routes. Climbing is also an excellent…
