RICHMOND – For about three weeks, Richmond High School worked on a general aid fund to help community families struggling during the holiday season with anything from the lights being turned off to other financial hardships, Student Council sponsor Michaela Lamb reported.

Principal Brandon Quick suggested spending the night on the roof of the high school in a tent if the student body raised $1,000 in a week.

“The students blew our expectations out of the water and managed to raise $3,000 in a week, which is amazing in and of itself, but an anonymous community member made an extra donation of $5,000 to total $8,000,” Lamb reported. “Because we raised so much money, five administrators/coaches (spent) the night on the roof (Monday).”

The student body hosted a “send-off” for the roof sitters, who remained on the roof until about 7 a.m. Tuesday.
