Effort to improve Hwy. 13 too late; man dies in wreck
WARRENSBURG – Work to improve part of Missouri Highway 13 south of Interstate 70 will be completed too late for a Richmond resident.
Blue-and-red flashing lights came in and out of focus for drivers going up and down hills on Nov. 5 on the unlit, no-shoulder stretch of Highway 13 between Higginsville and Warrensburg.
Emergency workers with flashlights waved on or halted drivers required to take turns getting through the cluster of emergency vehicles gathered in the dark to clear the fatality wreck that claimed the life of Anthony L. Johnson, 29, Richmond.
“It’s a shame that somebody lost their life there,” Bill Bernier, Warrensburg, a Missouri Highway 13 Corridor Coalition member, said Monday.
The coalition has worked to get state funding to improve the road and the state will help.
