Sheriff works on plan to place off-duty deputies in Orrick

ORRICK – Linda Lauck, Melody Blyth and Nick Harris are among the residents who wanted to know whether Orrick would continue to have law enforcement protection – and they got a partial answer Monday during the Orrick City Council meeting. Sheriff Scott Childers and council members agreed tentatively to have off-duty deputies cover Orrick. The council still needs to see and formalize the agreement. Childers sought County Commission approval Tuesday, but the commission tabled the issue for further review. As a group meeting with the newspaper, the community members wondered about law enforcers because news had spread on social media that city officers had left the community. Blythe said the force consisted of one full-time and one part-time officer. The council accepted both officers’ resignations Monday. “They quit on their own,” Mayor Tom Schrier said Nov. 5 before the meeting, adding, “We were really kind of surprised.
