Monte D. Livingston
Monte D. Livingston, 92, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on Nov. 7, 2021, at Oak Ridge Assisted Living in Richmond, MO, surrounded by his loving family.
On Jan. 5, 1929, Monte was born at his home, six miles north of York, NE, the son of Roy and Vernettie Livingston. He was the fifth of five children born to the couple. Monte graduated high school in 1947 in Republic, MO. He then moved to Alliance, NE, to work with his brother, Tennyson Livingston, for The Burlington Railroad, and this is where he met Louise Osborne. They were married on July 22, 1951, in Springfield, MO. The railroad transferred Monte to Richmond, MO, where he and Louise relocated. When the railroad wanted to transfer him again, Louise was expecting their first child, and they together decided to settle down in Richmond to raise their family. Monte was hired by the Missouri State Highway Department as a surveyor, and he retired in 1991. He also worked part-time as a welder for Paul Stuart.
Monte is survived by his wife of 70 years, Louise. Additional survivors include his daughter, Sandra (Sam) Waterman and husband Gary of Lexington, MO; his son, Mark Livingston and wife Gayle (Guinn) Livingston of Richmond; grandchildren Mathew Livingston and wife Alisha of Garner, KS, Mitchell Livingston and wife Summer of Kansas City, MO, Jacey (Waterman) Gibson, and husband Brad of Olathe, KS; and great-grandchildren Wesley Livingston, Lily Livingston, Eliza Livingston, Miles Livingston, Macklin Livingston, and Dawson Gibson.
Monte was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marjorie Malcolm; and three brothers, Tennison Livingston, Bennett Livingston, and Roger Livingston.
Monte had a heart of gold, he went out of his way to help everyone, he never met a stranger, and he had such a witty personality. He enjoyed bowling, playing horseshoes, square dancing, playing ping pong, taking his vintage car to car shows, restoring pedal cars, the Missouri Tiger team, and the K.C. Chiefs team.
He was a volunteer for the Ray County Red Cross for several years, a Boy Scout leader for several years, a member of the Richmond Jaycees, a member of the Hard-time Rodders car club, and a member of the Richmond United Christian Presbyterian Church. In later years he became a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, at the Richmond United Methodist Church, with a fellowship to follow downstairs.
The family respectfully requests no flowers and suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Richmond United Methodist Church or Shirkey's Hospice. Memorials can be mailed to Foster Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services, 201 South Main, Carrollton, MO 64633.
