Robert Leylan Creed
Robert Leylan Creed passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, in Hardin, MO. Robert lived a full life and was granted an earthly life of 85 years, three months, and 23 days.
On July 12, 1936, in Cairo, MO, the home of Leylan Meredith and Ula Mae (Robertson) Creed was blessed with a son, naming him Robert Leylan. He grew up in a loving home and attended school in Cairo, graduating with the class of 1954.
Robert asked for the hand of Winona May Hicks, and they were united in marriage on Nov. 23, 1958, in Moberly, MO, and this union was blessed with two children, Deanna and Kent. Thus, they were rewarded 62 years of matrimony. They made many fond memories raising their children and enjoyed spending precious time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Winona survives the home.
Robert enjoyed working and never complained about a hard day, and always enjoyed keeping busy. He was a meat cutter for Safeway Foods in Fulton, Columbia, and Lexington, MO, and later for IGA and Apple Market in Richmond, MO. He didn’t fully retire until his mid-seventies.
Robert was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved fishing when they first moved in the farmhouse south of Hardin, which nestles up to Crooked River and the Missouri River. They endured several floods and would temporarily have to move out of the home until the flood waters subsided. The family would often refer to their home as the last survivors on Route J.
When he wasn’t working or farming, he would be building many interesting creations in his shop. He made barrel trains for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren to ride. He also built a swing-set that has lasted through four generations. He proudly trained the meat judges for FFA for several different schools. He loved working on old tractors and began restoring tractors with his son, Kent, to drive them in many parades.
Robert and Winona were members of the First Assembly of God Church in Lexington. He enjoyed working at the church very much and drove the church bus for fifty years. Robert helped with the construction of their church, and later, he helped with remodeling the church.
Robert is survived by his wife, Winona Creed; two children, Deanna Frey of Vandalia, MO, and Kent (Diane) Creed of Oak Grove, MO; siblings, Gerald “Jerry” Creed, Delbert (Jane) Creed, Duane (Mary Ellen) Creed, Larry (Theresa) Creed, Sherry Creed-Wheeler (Bryan), Loyd (Lisa) Creed, and Lee (Marina) Creed; grandchildren, Cassandra Frey-Johnson (David), Rebekah Frey-Cook (Michael), Phillip Frey (Jennifer), Jason Creed, Nathan Creed (Haley); great-grandchildren, Joseph Frey, Arissa Johnson, Matthew Frey, Elijah Johnson, and Sophia Frey; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law Dean Frey, and a sister-in-law Elsa Creed.
A funeral service for Robert was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, at the First Assembly of God Church, Lexington, MO, with Pastor Jack Blansit officiating the service. The family received friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
As an expression of sympathy and in memory of Robert, memorial contributions are suggested to First Assembly of God Church, Lexington, MO.
