Bearcats find potential passing attack during loss to Raiders
SHELBYVILLE – The Bearcats might have broadened their attack, based on their performance during their 52-12 Oct. 15 road loss to North Shelby.
Like other teams Orrick varsity coach Kirk Thacker has led during his long career in 8-man football, the Bearcats have emphasized the run this season. Against the Raiders, however, they had more passing than rushing yards.
Officially, senior quarterback Blake Buchanan completed 11 of 29 passes for 158 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception. By contrast, the Bearcats tallied 131 rushing yards on 36 carries, paced by Buchanan with 77 yards on 20 carries.
“We had found that … that was kind of their Achilles heel and that we could throw on them,” Thacker said Monday by phone.
But based on their performance against North Shelby, the Bearcats must shore up their pass blocking, if they expect to have a consistently effective passing attack, Thacker said, adding that blocking would be a focal point during this week’s practices. With cleaned…
