Metro residents hear rural areas denied internet

RICHMOND – Residents across the Kansas City metropolitan area had a chance to hear something on Channel 41 their rural neighbors have long known – many farm areas lack internet service. The lack of service creates problems for rural-area students and businesses, and anyone wanting to be enlightened or entertained, or to communicate through using the internet. Based on stories reported by this paper, U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II, FCC Chairman Geoffrey Starks and Missouri Agriculture Director Chris Chinn are among many leaders who have recognized the lack of connectivity as a problem that needs solving. Richmond School District Superintendent Greg Darling said at one point he could not get internet at his house. He has service now, but only after erecting a large dish. The TV station interviewed Darling, Richmond High School student body President Zane Renfro and Brian Long about the lack of connectivity as part of a big-picture story about Gov.
