Comprehensive plan ready for public comment
RICHMOND – Richmond, in association with The Olsson Studio of Kansas City, is updating the community Comprehensive Plan.
The plan is designed to help cities develop a long-term, shared vision for the future and a blueprint for achieving those goals. The plan encompasses items such as future land use, development, recreation and transportation, and will be the city’s master plan for the next 10 to 20 years.
A stakeholder committee comprised of residents, business representatives, property owners and others has aided staff with developing the path forward.
The first phase of the process included a housing survey, which requested residents to give information regarding their current living situation and considerations made for future residential decisions. Survey results are available at www.makeitrichmondplan.com. Residents on the site can sign up for updates as the plan progresses and view project work, mapping and documents.
The second phase of the process included a town hall meeting June 30, which allowed all Richmond residents to give feedback on topics such as revitalization, transportation, infrastructure, recreation, land use and community development.
The committees, staff and The Olsson Studio developed a document to reflect public input and provide specific actions for the city to take to address key issues identified in the process.
The public has an opportunity to review this document and make suggestions and comments. Residents may visit www.makeitrichmondplan.com to review the draft plan through Oct. 17.
Recommendations will go to the City Council for consideration, discussion and possible approval.
“Successful implementation of this Comprehensive Plan will involve the entire community, not just city government,” city information states. “The Comprehensive Plan is the community’s vision for the future. What do residents want Richmond to look like 20 years from now? This is an opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments and imagine the possibilities.”
