Paper wins 37 awards

RICHMOND – For the third time in as many years, the Richmond News, sister paper of The Excelsior Springs Standard, won the Missouri Press Association’s Gold Cup Sweepstakes Award. The newspaper achieved 13 first-place, 11 second-place, seven third-place and six honorable mention awards. Together, the awards led to the highest point total of any newspaper in the same class across Missouri, which is the criteria for the cup. Sports Editor Shawn Roney, sportswriter Dustin Danner and Editor-in-Chief Jack “Miles” Ventimiglia shared the first-place award for best sports pages. Judging included the quality of writing; layout, design and photography; scope of content; headlines; local features; and columns. “I am proud of Shawn and Dustin and their professionalism in covering a variety of sports for boys and girls teams,” Ventimiglia said. “They do an outstanding job – the kind of community coverage our readers deserve.” The newspaper also took top honors for humor column; agriculture…
