Arts members recognize county mural supporters

RICHMOND – The Ray County Community Arts Association acknowledged supporters during the Ray County Bicentennial Mural dedication Sunday in downtown Richmond. Before Sam Welty had painted the mural and before Patricia Pierce had created the sketch, the vision for the painting came from a former association member, Lana Zeikle, who has since died, association President Melinda White said. “This was her idea, probably eight or 10 years ago,” White said. “We’ve worked on it ever since then, trying to get it to come together.” Part of getting the idea off the drawing board and into reality involved fundraising, White said. The community responded with roughly $22,500 in contributions, association member Opal Richardson said.
