Spartans Dominate 52-6
RICHMOND – Going in, the varsity football game looked equal, leaning toward Oak Grove.
Oak Grove brought 16 seniors, 11 juniors and a winning record in 2020 versus Richmond’s 12 seniors, 13 juniors and an MRVC East crown.
Going out, it looked lopsided.
In a second-quarter downpour, Richmond’s offense rained hard on Oak Grove, scoring 30 points on the way to pounding the Panthers 52-6. The Spartans appeared to do everything well.
“One thing we weren’t doing was losing,” senior wideout Layne Cavanah said moments afterward.
Cavanah caught several passes but said he liked his first-quarter defensive play best. With the score 0-0, the Panthers lined up on fourth-and-2 at their 43-yard line. Make the first down and momentum could swing their way.
“I came up and ... forced the turnover on downs,” Cavanah said.
