New coach sees hunger in Spartans for sound volleyball

RICHMOND – Junior Sarah Brungardt praised new varsity volleyball coach Crystal Turner. “She knows how to coach volleyball,” Brungardt said during practice Aug. 9. “She’s really good at it. She talks about things that I never even thought about.” Turner joined the school district in the middle of last school year as a science teacher. She began working with the volleyballers during the offseason and is impressed with the desire to learn and play the sport Brungardt and her teammates have shown. “That’s going to go a long way for them … just being hungry to play the game the right way,” she said. Turner’s method of rotating Spartans to various skill stations impresses Brungardt. “Some of the conditioning is specific to the type of skill that we’re trying to learn, versus just … running or something that’s general,” she said. “She focuses specific conditioning sessions on the specific skill that we can do, so we can focus on each thing one at a time.” Turner said stations hone…
