RICHMOND – The Richmond Rotary Club and the city united to plant 19 trees July 19 at the Pavilion Square. The Pavilion Square is a developing park in downtown Richmond on the formerly vacant lot at the corner of East North Main and North Thornton streets. The vision is for the pavilion to host community events. “It will be a place for families and friends to enjoy, as well as for business meetings, weddings and communities to come together,” club Grants Chairwoman Becky Treccariche said. During a city council meting, the Rotary Club presented a check for $5,000 to the city to pave the way for the project. Rotary District 6040 provided half, a $2,500 grant, and the Rotary Club matched the remaining $2,500. Mayor Mike Wright received another $2,000 Rotary check. Phase I of the project, having started in January 2020, during the time that Trec cariche served as club president, is complete. The work involved landscaping, stone fencing and lighting.
