Unfazed by heat, bees, fog, Bulldogs carry on with softball camp
HARDIN – Varsity coach Brandee Doyle and her Bulldogs had to get out of the heat when Hardin-Central staged its softball camp last week.
Originally, the Bulldogs were slated to convene in the afternoon July 26-29 and stage a 9-11 a.m. session July 30 at the Hardin American Legion and Auxiliary baseball and softball fields. That schedule got changed after Day 1, when temperatures topped 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
“That was a little rough,” Doyle, a Richmond High School graduate, said July 30.
Senior Alyssa Rechtermann agreed.
“We were … really exhausted,” Rechtermann said. “I don’t think we did our best that day.”
The rest of the week, the Bulldogs met 6-8 a.m. They liked the schedule change, Doyle said.
“Some of them wanted to go at 5:30,” she said. “But due to no lights, we had to back it to 6 a little bit there so we could see.”
Overall, the early morning practices went well, Rechtermann said.
