Commission seeks funds to address Henrietta Bridge

RICHMOND – Henrietta area leaders discussed repairing the old Missouri Highway 13 bridge or installing a crossing with the Ray County Commission on July 26. “We’re looking for money, just like everything else is needing the money, and they all want the big money, but what we’re trying to determine is whether or not to take that bridge down,” Presiding Commissioner Bob King said afterward. “Somebody’s going to have to help take it down.” The Missouri Department of Transportation gave Henrietta control of the bridge after constructing the Ike Skelton Bridge. With a population of about 350, Henrietta alone cannot handle the financial responsibility for what to do with the city’s bridge over railroad tracks. “We have had engineers look at that before, and estimates put there, and it’s been up around anywhere from $7-9 million to take it down and put a new one back up,” King said. “They’re asking about putting a new one back up.” The commission agreed to review whether the county could…
