Bob was born on September 23, 1931, to Jesse Arnold and Laveta Mae (Cox) Griffing in Ray County. He married the love of his life, Dorothy (Bernhard) Griffing of Hardin on October 26, 1950. He was blessed to spend over 70 years with her by his side.
Survivors include: his wife Dorothy of the home, their Son, Larry Griffing, and daughter, Janet (Terry) Salter of Missouri Valley, IA; Grandson, Matthew Salter and Granddaughter, Karena Salter; Great Grandson, Mason Salter and Great Granddaughter, Emily Salter.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Katy, brothers; Allen Wayne Griffing and David Arnold Griffing, and sister, Mary Alice Earring.
After graduation from Richmond High School, Bob served in the National Guard for 31 years and retired from Lake City Ammunition Plant.
Bob was an active member of the Millville United Methodist Church, where he met many close friends. Recently he has enjoyed attending the Christian Union Church in Richmond.
Bob enjoyed building houses, farming, gardening, and using his carpentry skills to help others. His faithful helper (Dorothy) was always there to lend a hand with his many projects.
Bob lived a full life. His generosity, kind spirit and ornery personality gave him the opportunity to enjoy getting to know people he met along life’s journey. Aging didn’t stop him from getting on the floor and playing with a child and he was always ready to go when an invitation came his way, which was often. He enjoyed telling stories with his witty sense of humor.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
