Crooked River climbs into yards, garages

RICHMOND – On June 25, the Fishing River covered the intersection at Northview Drive and Brookwood Street, getting into yards and basements, and surrounding the residence at 200 Northview. Flooding is an occasional irritation for residents on the north edge of the subdivision, which is just west of Missouri Highway 13, resident Sarah Madget said. The same area took on water during the double flood of 2019, Madget said, while looking at Carla Hogan’s house at 1413 Brookwood St. “It’s in their garage,” Madget said. Hogan said her house still has electricity; and the water in the garage, though irritating, does not appear to have caused damage. “It’s been worse,” she said. Floods that struck in 1993 and 1998 brought water higher into the garage, Hogan said. “In ’98, I had 4 feet,” she said. “Since then, the most I ever had was 2 feet. I’ve got a retaining wall that divides my house, so I’ve just got seepage on my basement floor like anybody would living in a hill.” Gretchen and…
