Bearcats learn basics of Thacker’s offense during first 8-man camp
ORRICK – Kirk Thacker found himself at square one last week while leading the Bearcats through their first 8-man football camp of the summer.
A1987 Richmond High School graduate, Thacker is Orrick’s new varsity football coach. Replacing Eric Fairchild, he takes the helm after 20-plus years at Hardin-Central, where his duties included coaching the Bulldogs’ varsity 8-man program and then the varsity Norborne Hardin-Central co-op program. His lengthy tenure at Hardin-Central got him “used to everybody already knowing the offense” when he held team camps, he said.
For Thacker, teaching Orrick his offense was “a little slow,” he said June 17 on Orrick’s practice field. Still, he expected his Bearcats to get the hang of it.
“It’s a whole different atmosphere from what they had last year,” Thacker said. “But as far as I go, it’s business as usual – the way it’s been at NHC and H-C for forever. … Different players and different field, but overall, (I am) pretty excited about the whole…
