ORRICK – Kirk Thacker found himself at square one last week while leading the Bearcats through their first 8-man football camp of the summer. A1987 Richmond High School graduate, Thacker is Orrick’s new varsity football coach. Replacing Eric Fairchild, he takes the helm after 20-plus years at Hardin-Central, where his duties included coaching the Bulldogs’ varsity 8-man program and then the varsity Norborne Hardin-Central co-op program. His lengthy tenure at Hardin-Central got him “used to everybody already knowing the offense” when he held team camps, he said. For Thacker, teaching Orrick his offense was “a little slow,” he said June 17 on Orrick’s practice field.
