Former mayor sued by clerks

ORRICK – Orrick City Clerk Deanna Hufford, 57; and Assistant City Clerk Cindy Lampton, 63, seek damages against the city. The women filed separate-but-related employment discrimination lawsuits in Ray County. As occurs in cases where employees allege discrimination, Hufford and Lampton first filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which then cleared them to file the suit against the government. Both women based their complaints on alleged discriminatory treatment relative to age and gender at the hands of “substantially younger” Jordan Waters, 27, while he served as Orrick’s mayor. He resigned as mayor Dec. 3 after about a year in office. The suit alleged that, late in 2019, Hufford and Lampton ran afoul of Waters by telling him that taking records from City Hall would violate the Missouri Open Meetings Act.
