Thacker coaches, teaches at Orrick to heal emotionally
ORRICK – Kirk Thacker sees his new job of coaching and teaching at Orrick as therapeutic.
A 1987 Richmond High School graduate, Thacker became Orrick’s varsity 8-man football and varsity track coach and joined the high school faculty as a social studies teacher this spring. On May 31, Thacker officially stepped into his coaching duties by overseeing evening training, he said June 4 by phone.
This week, Thacker is leading Orrick’s 8-man football program through its first team camp of the summer. It kicked off Tuesday. Per a message sent to assistant coaches Tom Pierce and Zach McGill, it is slated to conclude Friday, with the option of an extra day Saturday.
Thacker joins Orrick after 20-plus years at Hardin-Central. During his tenure there, his achievements included leading the school’s 8-man football program to a state runner-up finish in 2007 and the Norborne Hardin-Central 8-man co-op program to a state semifinal appearance in 2015.
