Church, Farnan lead Spartans at Mineral Water Classic

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Richmond senior Adrian Church has a simple strategy for running in cold, rainy weather like he experienced April 23 during the Mineral Water Classic at Tiger Stadium. “I normally just suck it up and just run,” Church said. By using that strategy, Church won an individual event and helped the Spartans win two relays to finish second in the boys team standings with 117.5 points – 14.5 points behind first-place Harrisonville and 2.5 points ahead of third-place Excelsior Springs. Individually, Church claimed the 100-meter dash in 11.34 seconds. “It was hard getting out at first … – (I) was kind of slipping – then kind of got myself together,” he said. “I … (knew) I had to … (make) up a lot of ground. And once I got myself together, I just accelerated.” Church also ran the anchor leg to help the Spartans win the 800 relay in 1:32.88 and the 400 relay in 44.06.
