Utility issues threat to 911 building plan; grant may be possible
RICHMOND – The continuing and controversial discussion about whether the 911 Board should construct a disaster-safe building ran into unexpected utility questions during last week’s meeting.
County resident Perry Vandiver said a business – going in near the proposed 911 construction site – stopped work upon learning a water line did not reach the property.
Board President Paul Harris said he would look into water and electical lines for the site. In addition, he said he had not yet discussed site access with the Missouri Department of Transportation.
Another audience member, Susan Edwards, asked how much the present building in downtown Richmond is worth. 911 Director Kim Davis gave a ballpark figure of $65,000.
The total cost to build and occupy the proposed building on Missouri Highway 10 is from $3.5 million to $3.7 million, based on information provided during the meeting by Josh Mandell, representing FGM Architects, St. Louis.
