Jewell’s Vandiver works in relief

LIBERTY – Richmond High School graduate Abby Vandiver is getting some pitching work in her freshman softball season at William Jewell College. As of Monday, Vander had made seven relief appearances and was 1-0, William Jewell records stated. Her most recent outings were March 30, when the Cardinals hosted Missouri Southern State University in a non-conference doubleheader. In the first game, Vandiver pitched an inning of William Jewell’s 5-0 loss, allowing two hits. Vandiver then pitched 2 1/3 innings of the finale, a 9-3 defeat, yielding four hits and an earned run, with one strikeout. Vandiver’s could pitch again this weekend, weather permitting, as the Cardinals are slated to host back-to-back Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheaders. They are scheduled to face the University of Southern Indiana Saturday and the University of Indianapolis Sunday.
