SENIOR CENTER STAYS CLOSED

RICHMOND – The Ray County Senior Center will remain closed until at least late May, but the Eagleton Center can open at any time, based on a discussion between Senior Center Director Pat Mills and the County Commission. The senior center has remained closed for the safety of older guests because of the pandemic, she said Monday. “I’m going to wait (at least) a couple more months,” Mills told commissioners. Before reopening, Mills wants clearance from the Mid-America Regional Council, which provides food to the center, and from the Ray County Health Department. At this point, MARC recommends against reopening until the fall, she said. “With the vaccinations coming in, that may come a little earlier – we don’t know,” Mills said. “We’re going to wait a couple more months (and see).” “Do you have an earlier time you want to open it up?” Presiding Commissioner Bob King asked. “No. We did a survey on all of our seniors that come to the center. Probably half of them haven’t been vaccinated…
