Richmond High School FFA students drive tractors to school

RICHMOND – Students do not plan to be driven far from their agricultural roots, with several piloting tractors to school during National FFA Week. On the same day, Gov. Mike Parson drives a John Deere tractor to the state Capitol in honor of the FFA tradition of students driving their tractors to school during annual observance. Student Corbin Calvert, 17, an FFA member, arrives first at school, rolling at roughly 20 miles per hour across the parking lot in the glow of the early morning sun. After climbing down from the cab, he explains the event’s purpose. “It’s a little part of showing everybody what we do to run our farms,” he says. “(Students) always come out and ask questions about the tractors and we try to explain it as best we can.” One of the high school’s agriculture teachers, Laura Allen, says students look forward to driving tractors to school. “This is a huge tradition and longstanding tradition in our FFA chapter,” she says. “The kids are really excited to do it.” Allen…
