SHERIFF-ELECT PLANS CHANGES

RICHMOND – Newly elected leaders from the president down often replace staff and Ray County Sheriffelect Scott Childers is doing the same. “I looked at who I thought would be a good fit. I looked at backgrounds, other issues, and decided to make changes” to support his vision for a reliable office that answers calls and takes reports, he said. Childers said he expected to lose at least five employees without causing service interruptions. “I’m already fully staffed,” he said. Some employees will be reassigned when Childers in January takes the seat held by Sheriff Garry Bush, who lost his Nov. 3 reelection bid. Undersheriff Brian Bush, Sheriff Bush’s brother, is among those being replaced. Childers said he is bringing in Platte County Sheriff’s Office detective Steve Mendoza, a cybercrimes expert, as second in command.
